Thanks to one of our CAFFL
Website visitors (Barrie MacLeod) we now know
some history of our TBM. We encourage
anyone else with history or picture to send them
to
Carl@CAFFL.org and we will post them on our
site!
Fredericton June
26th 1980
The aircraft started out with the United
States Navy. (The CAF is currently looking for that
record)
It served with the Royal Canadian Navy at Naval Air
Station Shearwater here in Halifax where I live and I
watched the NAVY Avengers flying over the harbor when I
was out sailing in the 1950s.
Its side number in the R.C.N. was 381
It was taken on with the R.C.N. 23 June 1952 and struck
off strength 17 January 1958
The Canadian Navy sold it to Skyway Air Services Ltd. in
Langley, British Columbia, Canada.
They sprayed budworm in New Brunswick in the spring and
fought forest fires in British Columbia in the summer.
That is all the way across the country as in California
to Maine.
In 1969 the Avengers were sold to a new company, Conair,
at Abbotsford, B.C.
Eventually Forest Protection in Fredericton, New
Brunswick bought their own aircraft and IMK came there.
Sold 1994 (?) to dealer Vintage Wings
If I see anything on it as 381 in the navy I will send
it along.
